Chemical analyses of tall oil and tall oil soap

Soap separation plays a vital role in the efficiency of the pulp making process. Soap and tall oil contents can be analysed from different parts of the process, such as from wood chips, cooking liquors, filtrates and pulps.

Crude tall oil can be distilled to recover various refined products, such as tall oil rosin and tall oil fatty acids. We can perform various analyses to either crude tall oil or to the refined products. Common analyses are acid number, rosin acid content, saponification number and cloud point.  We also have ready-made methods for determining the composition of free rosin and fatty acids.
